Day 1, December 15, 2012

What a great day on Saturday! It was so fun to meet all the girls and hit the slopes with them. We started the day with a safety meeting. We also discussed the 4 BIG rules to follow in our group as we ski:
1) Have Fun
2) Be Safe
3) Be Helpful
4) Be Tough
We kept to those principles and we had a super fun and safe day! We worked mainly on keeping our hands/poles out in front of us to keep the proper balance and stance for good turns. Ask them about the TRAY. Some girls are still sneaking in a little plow in their turns, so we worked on being aware of that and eventually eliminating that. All of the girls skied safely by staying behind the lead coach, keeping good space between skiers, and keeping in a tight group. They all knew how to stop below the person in front. I want to mention a few outstanding stars in each category. All of the "winners" were nominated by her teammates. These are not coming from the coaches only. All the girls were having fun, but Mackenzie wins the prize by showing the most enthusiasm when we headed to find moguls. All of the girls were supportive and helpful to each other, but Kamryn wins the prize here. Besides stopping to help teammates if they fell, she was always saying, "Good job! Way to go!" and "You can do it!" Also, Reese wins the Be Tough category because although she was miserable on the last run, she kept skiing well the whole way down without quitting. This impressed the team and showed everyone how to be the ultimate Tough Girl. The majority of the girls were exhausted by 2:00 yesterday, but eventually it will be hard to get them to want to stop by 2:30. The girls are asked to think of possible team names to bring to the next ski day and we will vote on it on January 5th. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and can enjoy some time on the slopes with your sweet girls.
